During the past decade new treatments and products have proliferated for people with rare conditions and for people with rare manifestations that occur in more common conditions. Concurrently there is a need to reach and interview the patients who are receiving these treatments and using these products.
The most statistically reliable way to reach these patients is also the least expensive: by internet recruiting from large consumer panels. However, this method breaks down where the screening criteria are too exclusive or where the subject matter is too sensitive.
Food & Drug Research is successfully addressing the problem of reaching those hard-to-find patient groups. Rather than use a large consumer panel, we enroll a relatively small number of physicians in a number of specialties. These physicians themselves pre-screen and recruit those of their patients who fit precise screening criteria. This method assures that our clients’ questionnaires are answered by the appropriate respondents.
We have successfully conducted internet studies with LOIs of up to 60 minutes and with IRs as low as 0.003% (about 10,000 patients) of the general US population.
